| Matthews Recreation Center |
|
|
The community center at Matthews Park is located in the Seward neighborhood adjacent to the Seward Montessori School. This beautiful center is packed full of treasures for the whole community to enjoy.
The center is home to cultural, athletic and enriching programs for all ages. Popular programs include Recreation Plus+, the morning preschool program, Chinese Kung Fu, ceramics and after-school activities.
These diverse activities take place both inside and outside the 8,000 sq. ft. center. A craft room is full of potential for great artistic moments with paste, sparkles, markers, paper, paint, ceramics or whatever strikes your fancy.
The gymnasium is always filled with the sound of bouncing balls and laughter whether it's open gym, basketball, volleyball or other indoor sports. The also organizes field trips, outdoor sports, and a full schedule of other activities.
The building is equipped with photovoltaic panels on the roof to generate electricity and demonstrate solar power generation.
Historical Profile: More information about this and other parks is included in Parks, Lakes, Trails and So Much More, a richly detailed account of the histories of Minneapolis’ renown recreational system.
