The recreation center was built in December 1968 as part of park improvements that included a wading pool, ball fields, playgrounds, a picnic shelter and lighting throughout the park. In 1996 the gym was added. Today the recreation center features indoor volleyball and basketball courts, a craft room, a kitchen and meeting rooms.
Popular programs at the park and rec center include pre-school gymnastics, art and music; the YouthLine mentorship program; and the Minneapolis’ Institute of Art’s Fall program, Art in the Park. Rec center staff collaborate with the Hale-Page-Diamond Lake Neighborhood Association for special events, including Frost Fest, Earth Day and Picnic in the Park.
Pearl Recreation Center is located conveniently off of 35W on the north side of Diamond Lake in south Minneapolis.
