47 outdoor ice rinks at 22 parks citywide will open December 22, 2014 weather and conditions permitting. Many offer separate rinks for general skating and recreational uses such as hockey, broomball and pond hockey.

Weather and conditions permitting, most rinks will remain open through February 16, 2015. Rinks at Lake of the Isles, McRae, North Commons and Van Cleve will remain open through March 1, 2015.

General Lake Ice Thickness Guidelines

Warming Rooms & Free Loaner Skates

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather (heavy snow or a combined temperature and wind chill of 20 degrees below zero), the warming house will be closed.

All outdoor ice rink locations feature warming rooms, and all except Nokomis offer free loaner skates available on a first come, first serve basis. Sizes and quantities vary by location.

2014/2015 Warming House Hours

  • All rinks (except Bryn Mawr, Lake of the Isles, Lake Nokomis): Monday-Friday 3-9 pm, Saturday 10 am-9 pm, Sunday noon-6 pm
  • Bryn Mawr: Monday-Friday 6-10 pm, Saturday-Sunday 12:30-4:30 pm
  • Lake of the Isles: Monday-Friday 3-9 pm, Saturday 9 am-9 pm, Sunday 10 am-9 pm
  • Lake Nokomis (open during pond hockey league games only): Monday-Thursday 5-9 pm, Saturday-Sunday 12:30-3:30 pm
  • Minneapolis School Release Days: Dec. 22-Jan 2, Jan.. 16 and 19, Feb. 13 and 16 noon-9 pm
  • Holidays: Only Lake of the Isles, McRae, North Commons and Van Cleve open Dec. 24 noon-4 pm, Dec 31 and Jan 1 noon-6 pm

Sites with rink light timers: Lake of the Isles, Lynnhurst, Matthews, and Van Cleve

  • Sunday, lights on until 9 pm

We welcome donations of ice skates and hockey sticks that are in good condition. Call or stop by a recreation center for drop-off information.

Indoor Skating Facilities

Parade Ice Garden
Parade Ice Garden has three rinks that are open year round to people of all ages, interests and abilities. Parade Ice Garden hosts skating events and competitions and offers ample parking, lockers and spectator seating as well as public skating and open hockey. Northeast Ice Arena
The Northeast Ice Arena features a 200 x 85 ft. ice rink that is available for hockey and skating group rentals. Northeast offers ample parking, locker rooms, a meeting room and spectator seating. View more information or call 612-370-3920 for details.
