Have fun learning the basics of sailing through the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board’s (MPRB) adult and youth sailing lessons. Participants learn the basics of sailing including tacking, gybing, knots, wind, boat rigging, and docking. Everyone gets to skipper the boat and trim the sails of a Lido 14 foot sailboat equipped with both a main and a headsail.
Lesson includes 3-4 classes and each sailboat will have one coach and up to three students. Enrollment is limited to 18 students per class. Life jackets are provided and lessons are held regardless of weather conditions. All lessons are held at Lake Harriet.
Walk-on registrations are permitted 20 minutes after the start of the first lesson if a registered camper does not show. To ensure adequate staffing of sailing instructors, refunds cannot be issued when a registered camper cancels within 72 hours of their first lesson, unless a walk-on registration takes their place. If a vacancy does occur due to a cancellation or no-show, these openings will first be offered to those on the wait list.
