Youth Wrestling is a winter league organized for boys and girls ages 6 to 13. Wrestling is a sport that encourages positive attitudes, builds self discipline and teaches leadership qualities. It is an opportunity to develop physical strength, technique, coordination, balance and agility while building new friendships. Wrestling is hand to hand contact sport between two unarmed contestants seeking to pin or press each others shoulders to the ground.
Youth Wrestling
- Ages 6 to 13, boys and girls
- There are two divisions in the wrestling leagues - Open Division and Girls Division, these divisions are then broken down by age.
- 7U – 6 and 7 year olds
- 9U – 8 and 9 year olds
- 11U – 10 and 11 year olds
- 13U – 12 and 13 year olds and any students who are still in the 8th grade
- Leagues are scheduled to play at several locations throughout the city
- National Federation of State High School association rules shall govern all matches except as modified here with:
- 7U and 9U - three 1 minute periods
- 11 and 13U - three 1-1/2 minute periods
- Participants must provide the following equipment: Singlet, T-shirt, Shorts, wrestling or tennis shoes.
- The season concludes with a city wide tournament.
- Registration is offered directly through participating recreation centers.
