Weddings at Lyndale Park Gardens

Here's some additional helpful information when planning your outdoor wedding at the Lyndale Park Gardens.

    General Information
  • Parking is available in the large lot on Roseway Road adjacent to the Gardens. This is a regional pay parking lot, meters are $.50/hour or a patron parking pass is required. A handicapped accessible satellite restroom is available between April 1st and October 29th.
  • All the gardens and the Roberts Bird Sanctuary are handicapped accessible.
  • A visitor's shelter at the entrance to the Roberts Bird Sanctuary is the only shelter in case of rain. Maximum capacity for the shelter is 35. The shelter cannot be reserved for weddings as it is the walkway entrance into the bird sanctuary.
  • Receptions are not permitted in the gardens. Permits cover only the wedding ceremony.
  • A map with directions to the gardens is available from the Permits Office, telephone 612-230-6442 or 612-230-6400.

    Lyndale Park Peace (Rock) Garden
  • Bridge will be removed Spring 2007 due to unsafe conditions. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced in 2008
  • Located across Roseway Road from the Rose Garden, this garden features a more contemplative, natural landscape contrasting with the formal design of the Rose Gardens.
  • The peak spring bloom time is from April 15 to June 1.
  • The Japanese-style bridge that crosses the stream bed features two peace stones that are gifts from the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Wedding parties often hold their ceremonies on this bridge.
  • The new waterfall cascade located in the upper part of the Rock Garden is a good site for smaller ceremonies.

    Lyndale Park Rose Garden
  • A permit for this garden includes not only the Rose Garden but also the annual-perennial area between the two fountains.
  • The rose beds are uncovered beginning on or about April 1st. Normally, the Rose Garden is in full bloom by June 15th of each year, however, this date can vary with weather conditions. For example: In 1983, the roses just started to bloom around July 4th due to the late spring, and in 1987 they began blooming on Memorial Day because of the unusually early spring.
  • The Phelps (turtle) and Heffelfinger (satyr) fountains are uncovered and running by Memorial Day. Our plumbers have six (6) golf courses, approximately 45 wading pools and other areas to open up during the last part of May. On occasion, the fountains may be uncovered and running earlier in May, but play it safe and plan on Memorial Day. All display fountains and pools in the park system are drained and/or covered for the winter on or about October 1st.
  • The annual flower beds just east of the Rose Garden are usually planted by June 10th of each year, however, their overall appearance and bloom is best beginning in late June.
  • A large selection of spring flowering bulbs are planted in the perennial beds. The exact date of bloom varies with the spring weather. However, early to mid-May is a fair estimate.
  • The rose and other gardens will be in full bloom until a killing frost in the fall. Normally, good weather prevails until mid to late September. However, Mother Nature has been known bring frost in July and August, but that is a rare occurrence.
  • The Rose Garden is sprayed regularly for pest control. Normally, the Rose Garden is roped off every Tuesday morning for this spraying. However, if it rains on Tuesday, the gardens are then sprayed on the next clear day, but never a weekend. Gardeners do keep a record of wedding permits (unless they are issued just a day before the wedding in which case gardeners rarely receive a copy of the permit until after the ceremony) and would naturally not spray just before or during any ceremony.
