The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau’s “Every 1 Counts in Minnesota” 2010 census awareness campaign. The official census day is April 1, 2010.
The U.S. Census has been conducted every decade since 1790 and serves as the official count of all people who reside within our country’s borders and jurisdictions. The census is used to determine the number of Congressional representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives and draws the lines for state and local governments. It also provides a roadmap for allocating more than $300 billion in federal dollars needed for parks, schools, roads and social services.
Over the next months, the MPRB will be working with the U.S. Census Bureau on various initiatives and events to in an effort to count everyone.
