Late Summer Heat Extends Minneapolis Wading Pool Season
Beaches remain open

With above average temperatures lingering into September, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is extending the season at 32 of its 65 wading pools.

Originally scheduled to close Tuesday, Sept. 4, 32 wading pools throughout the city will remain open through Sunday, Sept. 9; see list below for open wading pools. If temperatures remain at 80 degrees or above at that time, pools may remain open longer.

Approximately 30 wading pools located on or adjacent to Minneapolis Public School property closed Monday, the first day of school in Minneapolis, to ensure the safety of students. Water parks closed and lifeguard services at beaches ended for the season on Sunday, Aug. 26, with the majority of lifeguards returning to college and high school classes. Beaches remain open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Swim docks at lakes Calhoun and Harriet have been removed as of Thursday. Docks at lakes Nokomis and Cedar, as well as swim buoys at all of MPRB beaches, will be removed Sept. 4–7.
