Loring, Powderhorn art festivals celebrate community, diversity
Minneapolis Arts Weekend is Aug. 7-8
Over 320 artists from across the country will showcase their talents at the Powderhorn Art Fair and Loring Park Art Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-8. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. From traditional to abstract, artistic media includes painting, photography, printmaking, handmade paper, wood, leather, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, mixed media and glass. With a variety of price ranges and other activities, the family-friendly multi-cultural events provide something for everyone. Admission to both is free.
Powderhorn Art Fair
The 19th annual event features the works of over 180 artists. Other attractions include a community showcase, group exhibitors, music, food and children’s activities. Art fair profits benefit programs at Powderhorn Park. Past projects have includes theatre arts, a computer lab, teen center, music recording studio, pottery studio and team sports. Powderhorn Park is located at 3400 15th Ave. S. The art fair is a collaborative effort between the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Loring Park Art Festival
The 11th annual event showcases 140 visual artists, and features strolling musicians, stage performances, children’s activities and food booths. Loring Park is located at 1382 Willow St. across from the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Free Bus Service
The Loring Park and Powderhorn Park fairs are part of the Minneapolis Arts Weekend, which includes the Uptown Art Fair. Free bus service between all three locations is provided by Metropolitan Transit and Vita.mn. The “Vita.mn Art Hop” shuttle bus also stops at the Lake Street/Midtown Light-rail Station; for more information visit www.metrotransit.org/arthop.
