Bridge connecting Loring Park and Sculpture Garden closed for repairs

The Irene Hixon Whitney pedestrian/bicycle bridge that connects Loring Park and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden has been closed for repair.

The work begins Tuesday, June 2. The work consists of removing and replacing the timber deck with touch-up painting as needed. The duration of the project is 20 working days. There will be some I94 closures and Lyndale Ave/Hennepin Ave closures. Tuesday the contractor is starting on the East approach, but will also remove some of the stair treads on the West side to start some of the painting.

Access for pedestrians and bicyclists will be maintained during the project. Posted detours will direct bridge traffic south to Vineland Place in order to cross Hennepin Avenue.

Overnight lane closures on I-94 and daytime, non-rush hour closures of Hennepin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue will occur during the work period.
