Owl Prowl on the West River Road, Saturday, April 3, 7:15-8:45 p.m. – Participants take an evening hike to look and listen for owls. A naturalist shares information about owls found in the Twin Cities, and leads a prowl for these interesting birds; $10 fee. Program participants meet at 36th St. E. and West River Parkway.
Minnesota Frog and Toad Call Monitoring Survey, Friday, April 16, 7:30-11 p.m. (alternate date April 23) – The Minnesota Frog and Toad Call Monitoring Survey is an ongoing statewide study sponsored by Hamline University’s Center for Global Environmental Education. The survey provides accurate data on where frog and toad species are located throughout the state. MPRB naturalists lead citizens along these routes to listen for the many species of frog and toad that live in the city. Participants receive a brief orientation before heading out in a van on a 10-stop route to listen for frogs and toads; $5 fee. Program participants meet at Longfellow Recreation Center, 3435 36th Ave. S.
Early Spring Bird Migration on the Mississippi Flyway, East River Flats Park, Saturday, April 17, 7:30-9:30 a.m. – Participants watch for the earliest spring migrants along the Mississippi River in Minneapolis; $5 fee. Participants meet at the trail head on East River Road just south of Franklin Ave. SE. Binoculars available on request at registration.
Spring Ephemerals at the Mississippi River Gorge, Saturday, April 24, 10-11:30 a.m. – MPRB naturalists lead a hike showcasing early spring flowers at the Mississippi River Gorge; $5 fee. Participants meet at the parking lot on West River Parkway and 36th St. E.
