The Earth Day Watershed Cleanup began in 1995 to draw attention to the water quality improvement needs of Minneapolis’ lakes and the effects that individual actions have on urban water quality. The goal of Earth Day is to provide both a volunteer experience and environmental education to Minneapolis residents and park users.
Last year more than 3,000 volunteers removed over 30,000 pounds of trash at 41 cleanup locations in neighborhoods, parks and watersheds throughout Minneapolis.
For more information about the event, call 612-230-6484 or visit www.minneapolisearthday.com.
To raise funds for future Earth Day Cleanup efforts, the third annual Minneapolis Recycle Run will be held Sunday, April 18, at Lake Harriet. The event features a 5K Run and a Kids’ Half Mile Run. It is presented by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the City of Minneapolis. To register, visit www.minneapolisrecyclerun.com. For information or to volunteer, contact Arik at 612-230-6484 or arudolph@minneapolisparks.org.
