This winter, there’s frozen fun for everyone
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has your fun on ice

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will start opening outdoor ice rinks at 23 park and lake locations citywide beginning the week of Dec. 14, weather permitting. So lace up your skates, winter fun is right around the corner at your neighborhood park.

The rinks will be open from mid-December through mid-February, weather permitting. Most locations feature warming rooms and separate rinks for recreational skating and ice sports like hockey, pond hockey and broomball. A limited number of used skates are available for free loan at the warming houses; sizes and availability vary by location.

For ice conditions and rink openings and closings, call the park system’s rink hotline at 612-313-7708. The hotline is updated on a regular basis. See the document below for a list of rink sites.

Indoor Rinks
If the weather outside is frightful, indoor skating is always delightful. If it’s too warm to skate outside, just head indoors. The MPRB operates two indoor skating facilities: Parade Ice Garden and Northeast Ice Arena.

Parade Ice Garden offers public indoor skating Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and open hockey Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Rinks are also available for group rental, call 612-370-4846 for more information.

Northeast Ice Arena offers open hockey Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and is available for group rentals; for information call 612-782-2123.

Outdoor Rink Establishment and Conditions
Park crews are committed to providing the best rinks possible despite the unpredictable winter weather. In addition to daily temperatures and precipitation, rink establishment and maintenance is largely affected by conditions of the athletic fields underneath the ice rinks and frozen surfaces of the lakes.
