The Carl W. Kroening Interpretive Center at North Mississippi Regional Park officially opened in March 2002. Visit the center to learn more about the Mississippi River and its role as a transportation corridor, recreation resource, natural habitat and source for jobs and drinking water.
Check out the wall of maps, discover the dangers of logging, and take a '73 Barracuda for a spin to discover the impact I-94 had on the surrounding community. Visit the Webber Baths and local quarry, and observe the changes in the Mississippi's water quality. Hunt for building features constructed of sunflower seed shells, wheat and recycled plastic.
Carl W. Kroening Center Solar Panel Installation and Interpretive Kiosk – A photovoltaic (PV or solar) panel installation was completed on the Kroening Center roof in 2011. Funding for the solar installation is primarily from Solar Energy Legacy grant from the Parks and Trails Fund created by the Minnesota Legislature from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment passed by the voters in 2008. The program is part of the Regional Parks and Trails Legacy Grant Program established in Minnesota Statutes. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Xcel Energy Solar Rewards Program also helped to fund the project.
