Bohanon Park has something for everyone to enjoy. There are several fields for baseball, softball or cricket, courts for basketball and tennis, a picnic area, a totlot playground and wading pool for the kids, and during the winter, an outdoor hockey rink
Located a few blocks east of Creekview Park along 49th Ave. N at Bryant Ave. N, Bohannon Park is adjacent to the Jenny Lind Elementary School. The park was previously the site of a city workhouse. Acquired in 1935, it was simply called the Workhouse Site Playground until being officially renamed after a prominent settler of the area, John C. Bohanon, in 1946.
The park was developed with the assistance of the Works Progress Administration in 1940 and has benefited from further development and expansion efforts in the years since; including the conversion of a section of 50th street into green space to connect the park to the school.
Historical Profile: More information about this and other parks is included in Parks, Lakes, Trails and So Much More, a richly detailed account of the histories of Minneapolis’ renown recreational system.
