Just south of the downtown hustle and bustle at the intersection of Park and E. Franklin Avenues is the urban playland Peavey Park and Recreation Center. Aside from the occasional buzz of traffic, Peavey is a relatively quiet park where one can find solitude and peace of mind. There’s plenty of seating, including benches, tables, and the coolest mosaic picture art seating on the corner of E. Franklin and Chicago Avenues.
Peavey Park is a full seven acres, complete with three half-court basketball areas, tennis court, volleyball/badminton court, baseball diamonds and open fields to play soccer or football.
Bring the kids over for an afternoon of fun. They’ll be ecstatic when they learn there’s not one, but two playgrounds, and a wading pool!
Historical Profile: More information about this and other parks is included in Parks, Lakes, Trails and So Much More, a richly detailed account of the histories of Minneapolis’ renown recreational system.
