Matthews Park and Recreation Center are located in the Seward neighborhood and spans over 10 acres of land. All varieties and sizes of trees are scattered throughout the park. One is too big to wrap your arms around! Give it a try.
There are more than just trees in the park, including a huge hill overlooking the sports field. Constructed to block off the business area from the park, the hill has become a popular site for activities. Next to the hill is a huge field for soccer, softball, and just running about.
The park also has ice rinks for broomball, hockey and skating, a wading pool, volleyball court, tennis courts and new playground equipment. If you're looking for a quiet moment, enjoy a walk or ride around the park, have a picnic, explore the garden or sit on a bench to celebrate the day.
Historical Profile: More information about this and other parks is included in Parks, Lakes, Trails and So Much More, a richly detailed account of the histories of Minneapolis’ renowned recreational system.
