ABOUT COMMISSIONER BOURN
GOALS
I am proud and honored to represent the people of Southwest Minneapolis on the Park Board. I believe that our parks are for everyone and they continue to be one of our greatest resources. I will work hard to make sure that this great resource is available for generations to come.
As Commissioner, I am committed to making sure that the MPRB will:
- Be the unquestioned leader in providing structured out-of-school time opportunities for our city’s youth.
- Contribute towards a healthy lifestyle for everyone in Minneapolis by encouraging increased physical activity for youth, providing healthier food options in our parks, and making children’s playgrounds tobacco free.
- Proactively address the needs of our changing community by offering more programming and opportunities designed to engage our city’s growing diverse population.
Improve partnerships with other government units and mission-based non-profits to address our income shortage and maintain a high level of service for residents of Minneapolis and our guests.
- Continue to clearly define a sustainability plan that will reduce our carbon footprint and increase our reliance on and production of alternative energy sources.
PUBLIC SERVICE
Recipient of the Presidential Service Award for work with at-risk youth.
Former Board member of Theatre Space Project, a St. Paul based non-profit dedicated to providing affordable performance space for artists.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
I have dedicated my career to public service and strengthening our community. I am a youth and volunteer program director for a North Minneapolis non-profit. I currently work with youth ensuring they have all the resources they need to grow into healthy, happy adults.
One of my proudest career highlights was volunteering for a year of national service through Americorps. During my year of service, I worked as a program coordinator in the Minneapolis Public Schools. It was a very humbling experience to give back to my community and encourage all young people to do the same.

2005- Bachelor of Arts, Augsburg College
2008- Master of Public and Non-Profit Administration, Metropolitan State University
