Picnics in Minneapolis Parks

Picnics in Minneapolis - Reserve a Picnic Shelter

Whether it's a family reunion or company picnic, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) offers many reserveable picnic sites throughout the city. The areas include a variety of amenities to make your event convenient and fun, including shelters for up to 200 people, electricity, outdoor grills, water, nearby parking lots, walking paths, playgrounds and gardens.

The picnic season runs April 15-October 15. Permits are required. Returning 2013 customers interested in reserving the same picnic shelter in 2014 may submit a 2014 Facilities Use Permit Application beginning 365 days prior to the proposed 2014 picnic date. New customers interested in reserving a picnic shelter in 2014 may submit a 2014 Facilities Use Permit Application beginning 335 days prior to the proposed 2014 picnic shelter date. The MPRB Customer Service office also issues permits online, by phone, by fax, by mail, and in person on a first-come, first-served basis at MPRB headquarters.

Open Picnic Areas
The following open picnic areas are available for public use on a first come first serve basis:

  • Minnehaha picnic area #1
  • The pavilion near the falls at Minnehaha
  • Lake Harriet #1 near the bandstand
  • Theodore Wirth near the beach
  • East River Flats

Picnic Location and Fees:

  • Half Day - 6 hour bookings
  • 9am to 3pm or 4pm to 10pm
