Farview and North Commons athletic field renovations
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has been working with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and other local funders to identify athletic fields in need of renovation. Fields at Farview and North Commons parks emerged as top candidates to receive donations for improvements. Proposed improvements will focus on the softball diamond at North Commons Park and the full ball field area at Farview Park. They will include artificial turf and new players benches at both parks and lighting upgrades at Farview Park.

Background
Project Phase/ Closures of Park Facilities
Plans for both parks were approved at the September 5 Park Board meeting. The board stipulated, however, that staff were to work with the community on designing the field aesthetics for the Farview renovation. The Farview Park design is nearly ready to be finalized, and the community is invited to assist with design details. (See Community Engagement (link to section below))
Construction of athletic field improvements is expected to begin at both Farview Park and North Commons Park in spring 2013.
