Minneapolis Riverfront Development Initiative

Transition from Design Competition to the Riverfront Development (Apr – Sept 2011)
The momentum, excitement and exposure of the opportunities created by the upper riverfront design competition are driving the next steps of the process which is implementation.  During the April 6, 2011 Park Board meeting, Commissioners took action on transitioning the Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition to the next stage, the Minneapolis Riverfront Development Initiative. The next six months will be the Design Development Strategy phase where we will be working closely with a series of committees and the public to create this strategy. For more information about the Development Initiative go to: MinneapolisRiverFrontDevelopmentInitiative.com.

Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition (Oct 2010 – Feb 2011)
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and The Minneapolis Parks Foundation, The University of Minnesota College of Design and the Walker Art Center partnered to conduct the Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition (MRDC).  The Competition provided the Park Board and major stakeholders with a framework to implement phased development of the Upper Riverfront over the next twenty to thirty years.  More information about the Design Competition to Date can be found at: MinneapolisRiverfrontDesignCompetition.com.
