Activities and Programs

Minneapolis residents can enjoy the benefits of recreation and the city's many amenities through hundreds of tax-supported programs and services offered by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Programs range from classes at neighborhood Rec Centers and environmental programs in the great outdoors, to sports leagues and concerts in the parks. Minneapolis residents who cannot afford instructional fees because of economic need may apply for recreation fee assistance.

Adult SportsAdult Sports

Get a team together for an adult league in the sport of your choice, or pursue fitness through classes and programs.


RecreationRecreation Centers

A wide range of activities and programs for children, teens, adults and seniors are available at neighborhood Recreation Centers. Use the ActiveNet Search to find specific offerings near you.

Youth SportsYouth Sports

The Youth Sports Department offers competitive inter-park sports leagues in basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, wrestling, gymnastics, football, and tennis.


Youth Programs

Our specialized programs and activities for children and youth range from school-age child care to youth leadership experiences.


Give back to the Minneapolis community through opportunities that range from youth sports to gardening.


Environmental Programs

Children, adults and families throughout Minneapolis can enjoy a variety of environmental programs taught by naturalists and instructors at our Recreation Centers.

Inclusion & Adaptive Programs

MPRB welcomes people of all ages with disabilities to participate in programs and services to make friends, have fun, learn new skills, and increase self-esteem.


Water Recreation Opportunities

Locate swimming classes and other swim programming offered at Recreation Center pools across the City.

Community Special Events

From the 4th of July to the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships, enjoy family-friendly activities throughout the year.

  Winter Recreation

Outdoor Winter Recreation

Stay active with outdoor recreation opportunities including figure skating, hockey and broomball on 47 ice rinks. Check out Wirth Winter Recreation Area for cross-country skiing, snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cycling.

Indoor Ice Arenas

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board offers two indoor ice arenas to give skaters and hockey players the opportunity to skate year-round or even play soccer on specially-laid turf.


Computer Labs

Many Recreation Centers offer computer labs for free public use for educational classes, homework, graphic design, and email.

Outdoor Concerts and Movies

For a refreshing form of entertainment, take in an outdoor concert or a movie at a park near you.
